Canning & Preserving Workshop

Learn the Basics of Safe Home Food Preservation

Date: Thursday, August 20, 2026
Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: Viking Rental Centre, 204 Community Way, Okotoks, AB

Join us for an informative evening workshop designed for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of safe home canning and food preservation.

What You'll Learn:

  • Safe home canning practices and food safety fundamentals
  • The differences between water bath and pressure canning
  • Essential canning equipment and how to use it
  • Safe preservation techniques for seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • Proper methods for safely pressure canning wild game and other meats
  • Tips for successful, long-lasting home food preservation

Hands-On Workshop Activities:

During the class, participants will prepare and preserve:

  • Wild game meat using safe pressure canning techniques.
  • Peaches or another seasonal fruit, learning either whole-fruit preservation or jam-making using the water bath canning method.

A Beginner Canning Kit to take home
A comprehensive Instruction Booklet for future reference
